This year, Ford employees submitted more patent applications than any other year since Ford's inception 113 years ago. Globally, 8,000 new inventions were submitted over the course of the year, up nearly 40 percent from last year's number, and 90 percent from 2014.
Among these inventions is one for equipping autonomous vehicles with drones, the Ford eChair for wheelchair users, and On-the-Go H20 condensation collection system. All of these creations will bring new innovative technology to the future Ford line-up. Additionally, of the 5,500 Ford employees who submitted inventions disclosures, 2,200 were first-time inventors.
As well as the impressive number of patents and inventions coming out of Ford this year, the company also worked with TechShop to open a facility in Detroit where at-home engineers can collaborate to develop ideas and create prototypes. The shop is equipped with tools and computers loaded with design software.
