Information from AAA reports that drivers pays over $3 billion a year, and $300 per pothole-related damage. The 2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport will come standard with this new technology. Not only will the new Ford Fusion help you avoid potholes, but the overall driving experience will be fun and effortless with a 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 EcoBoost engine that pushes out 325 horsepower.

Here’s how Ford’s new pothole mitigation technology works. It’s a computer-controlled shock absorber system where dampers are used to soften the ride over a pothole. There are 12 high-resolution sensors that control the dampers and every two are checked every two milliseconds to ensure the fastest response possible. When one of the sensors encounters the edge of a pothole the car’s computer will relay the message to the damper fast enough to stiffen up and catch the wheel before it can fall into the pothole. The rear suspension will then be notified by the car’s technology even faster to make sure the rear wheels avoid the pothole as well.

A Ford Engineer, Jason Michener, mentioned what was involved in the testing of this new technology saying, “We tested and tuned this system by driving over countless potholes – subjecting Fusion V6 Sport to the brutal, square-edged potholes of our Romeo Proving Grounds to finesse the software. It was long hours of not very pleasant work, but the results are well worth it.”

The 2017 Ford Fusion will give owners the best driving experience that Ford can offer. The vehicle features a normal mode which drivers can use in their everyday commute. Then there’s a sport mode that will turn on the computer-controlled shock absorber and allow for fun and better handling.
